Smoking cessation

Enhance your dental health by saying no to tobacco.

Smoking can increase your risk of developing gum disease because it makes you more vulnerable to infection. Other unpleasant effects caused by smoking and the use of tobacco products include bad breath, staining of the teeth, jawbone shrinkage, receding gums, slow healing mouth sores and a reduced sense of taste and smell.

We encourage any of our patients who smoke to try to give up because tobacco use is strongly linked to mouth cancer, as well as other dental problems. If you would like more information about oral cancer the Mouth Cancer Foundation can help.

If you smoke, we let you know about the risks and provide the information and support that will help you quit. It is also important to attend regular check-ups so we can help keep your oral health in great condition and offer quitting tips and support.
