Sensitive teeth

Treating painful teeth.

Sensitivity of the teeth is a common problem that can be very uncomfortable, and particularly noticeable when your teeth are subjected to extremes of temperature, such as when you eat or drink something very hot or cold.

If the outer layer of the tooth is worn away, it can expose the underlying dentine and lead to sensitivity. This wearing away of the enamel is known as dental erosion, and its causes include:

  • Consuming sugary or acidic food or drink
  • Brushing teeth too hard
  • Bruxism (teeth grinding)
  • Certain medical conditions
  • Eating disorders

If you suffer from sensitive teeth, you should book an appointment with your dentist so they can identify the cause and treat it.
